Manuscripts on Cultural Anthropology Specifications
Table of Contents
1 Collection Record
Create a collection record in the Digital Repository for the Manuscripts on Cultural Anthropology digital collection. Do this only once. (SCRC)
2 Accession Record
SCRC will create an accession record for each deposit of one or more issues. Preservation (Kathy Arthur) will communicate to SCRC (Laura Alagna) the need to do this (by email).
3 Numbering
Manuscripts on Cultural Anthropology uses the following numbering scheme:
- mca-seriesNumber-itemNumber
"mca" is always "mca". "seriesNumber" is a two-digit number for the series. "itemNumber" is an assigned three-digit number for the item.
4 Directory (folder) and file structure
Arrange issues on disk on the samba storage server according to the following hierarchy:
/storage/mca/ -- all mca items /storage/mca/01 -- series 1 /storage/mca/01/001 -- series 1 item 1
Arrange issues on disk according to the following hierarchy.
mca/ mca/01 mca/01/001
Associated files follow this pattern:
mca-01-001.pdf
5 Files and Naming Conventions
Include the following files for each item as part of the deposit in the directory (folder) for an individual item, e.g., /storage/mca/01/001.
Include the following files for each issue as part of the deposit.
- one digital masterfile for each scanned object, from front cover to back cover of issue, numbered sequentially from (for example) mca-01-001-001.tif to (for example) mca-01-001-123.tif. Pad left with 0s, if necessary, so that the portion before the .tif extension always conforms to this pattern: mca-NN-NNN-NNN.
- one searchable PDF per issue, e.g.,
mca-01-001.pdf
- a MARC record exported from VuFind in MARC communications format, e.g., mca-01-001.mrc.
Once the deposit record has been filled out, repository managers will transfer the deposit from samba to the digital repository.
