2 Descriptive Metadata
KF will establish the form of title, the date pattern, and the description. KA will assign the mvol number.
3 Digitization
University Record to be digitized (scanning, metadata creation, and production of LIMB output) by the end of 2014.
University Magazine will resume being scanned starting in January, 2015. It is currently 77% scanned in terms of issues. Preservation will also be working on metadata creation and producing LIMB output.
Completing these long-run campus publication titles is a priority for Preservation this year. Preservation does have other commitments, such as completion of the MEPA (Middle East Photo Archive) images, but it will allocate around 10 hours per week to Campus Pubs, assess how that translates to production, and report out to the DCWG.
LIMB output files are documented in Campus Publications Specifications from 2014-09-01: Files and Naming Conventions. LIMB software produces everything except the file of structural metadata, which will continue to be produced as it has (MS Excel -> tab-delimited text file). A script exists to convert that output to Library Digital Repository (LDR) SIP-compliant input. At what point in the workflow, and by whom, conversion is to happen, has yet to be discussed or decided. CB will take the lead on this.
KF and KA will share spreadsheet information. CB will set up a DLDC web node in which both KF and KA can edit.
4 Library Digital Repository (LDR)
Some cleanup and catch-up is required, as documented in Campus Publications: Cleanup and Catch-up. (CB) KA and LA will coordinate on moving items into the LDR.
5 Interface
There will be two systems, campub-test.lib.uchicago.edu and campub.lib.uchicago.edu, one test, the other production.
5.1 campub-test.lib.uchicago.edu
Into this system will be loaded issues once they have been produced by Preservation and after they have been loaded into the LDR (LA). Once a title is complete, which DM will ascertain, it will be loaded into the production system, campub.lib.uchicago.edu. Once the first title has been loaded into that system, the production Campus Publication website will be launched. SCRC will take the lead in doing that. (DM)
Five files need to be removed from the website. EI will supply CB with the information.
5.2 campub.lib.uchicago.edu
The first title to be included in the production website is the University Record, scheduled for January, 2015, to be followed by the University of Chicago Magazine. Official publications are currently off the table. This is the FY 2015 title focus (DM):
- Part 1
- University Record
- University of Chicago Magazine (through 1994)
- Cap and Gown (through 1967)
- Part 2
- Annual Register
- Quarterly Calendar
- Part 3
- Daily Maroon/Chicago Maroon
The interface will retain references to Student Publications, but will not link to them until the first student publication has been loaded.
CB will take the lead on moving issues from the LDR to the test interface, and on moving titles once they are complete into the production interface.
