[1] Guerrilla Television is at least partially archived outside of OCFL. [2] For each of these sites, step 1 is to convert the algorithm that pi.lib uses to compute locations into a table instead, mapping original identifier to ARK identifier. Step 2 is (a) to perform the DNS redirections indicated below and (b) to ask Cataloging to change the 856 fields to use the ARK identifiers instead of the pi.lib identifiers, to save a level of indirection. Step 3, which depends on 2 (a), is to decommission the original site.
When the following collections go live, their DNS records will need to redirect as follows.
- chopin.lib.uchicago.edu → https://node.uchicago.edu/collection/chopin-early-editions
- goodspeed.lib.uchicago.edu → https://node.uchicago.edu/collection/the-goodspeed-manuscript-collection
- roseandchess.lib.uchicago.edu → https://node.uchicago.edu/collection/rose-and-chess
- speculum.lib.uchicago.edu → https://node.uchicago.edu/collection/the-speculum-romanae-magnificentiae-digital-collection
The same will need to be done for photoarchive.lib.uchicago.edu and ead.lib.uchicago.edu if we create interfaces in Node for them.
Two collections should not be allowed to fall through the cracks: Mesoamerican Languages Collection; Online Language Archive. Both were built to meet grant-funded or MOU-mandated deadlines while UChicagoNode was still being planned. They should both be ported to Node to eliminate the burden of their support on separate platforms.
The following criteria may serve to guide priorities:
- Is this a collection facing an emergency which, unless it is replatformed, will interrupt service?
- Is this a collection on a grant-funded or administratively mandated timeline?
- Is this a new collection which, other things being equal, should take priority, since otherwise no one can view it?
- Is this a collection on obsolete or redundant infrastructure?
- Collections on external platforms which it might be desirable to include in Node. (The University of Chicago Map Collection, North Korean Stamp Collection, both in Luna)
Collections are aggregates of rights, permissions, and attribution determinations and statements, descriptive metadata, "about" pages, in many cases preservation TIFF images, pyramidal TIFF images, and IIIF manifests, as well as unstructured and structured OCR (METS records) as necessary. These all need to be bagged and deposited in Continuum (https://github.com/uchicago-library/UChicagoNode/wiki/BagIT). Some of this is tracked in the table at the top of this document, which focuses on Digitization-specific work, not all of the work involved. See the canvas Rights, Permissions, Attributions on Slack.
